CHOOSING RINGS:
Traditionally, boy presents girl with diamond, boy proposes, girl accepts, and the wedding plans begin. Today's brides and grooms often choose rings together; after the proposal (from either party) has been accepted privately. When the engagement ring is on the finger, then the announcement is made public. The bride's engagement ring is worn on the left ring finger and is removed just before the ceremony. Afterwards, it returns to join the wedding band on the same finger. A change from yester-year is the appearance of the male engagement ring. A lovely diamond or a favourite stone set in gold and worn on the left ring finger until just before the ceremony, when it's transferred to the right hand. Diamonds today come in all different shapes, sizes, clarity, and colour. The choices are seemingly endless, Rings are such a personal thing. So much so, that the choice should be left entirely to the couple getting married. A wise idea however, is to seek out a professional gemmologist and goldsmith who can, not only design and hand craft your wedding bands to match your engagement rings, but will give you years of expert service and advice. Be sure to ask for an appraisal certificate. It's necessary to insure your rings for replacement value. [ back ]
