The Wallaceburg and District Museum is situated near the heart of downtown Wallaceburg. Located at 505 King Street, the museum occupies the former Wallaceburg Hydro Building and is less than half a block from the banks of the Sydenham River.

The museum documents the beginning of our community from the founding of the Baldoon Settlement by Lord Selkirk in 1804 to its success as an industrial hub in the mid-1900s. The town’s first industries included lumber mills and cooperages. Industry later transitioned to glass, sugar and automotive parts production. Agriculture also plays a major role in the local economy to this day.

The community is only a short drive from many large urban centres, including London, Windsor and Sarnia. It is less than an hour-and-a-half commute from Detroit, Michigan and Port Huron, Michigan. The Wallaceburg’s main waterway, the Sydenham River, connects to the St. Clair River, which ties into the Great Lakes fresh-water system.

Located at the forks of the Sydenham River, Wallaceburg offers many unique opportunities to visitors. The downtown docking and other nearby marinas make the community an ideal vacation spot for fishing, boating and hunting enthusiasts. Mooring possibilities in the downtown core offer easy access to shopping and dining.

Wallaceburg is a charming, small town with friendly, easy-going citizens. Once a thriving industrial centre, this Chatham-Kent community is now a mix of industry, retail, agriculture, tourism and relaxed living.

Public events include the Fourth Fridays Culture Crawl each month from May to September and the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing (WAMBO) - the largest antique transportation display in Canada - the second weekend of August each year. Many local organizations and groups host a variety of events throughout the year as well.
