OUR PIONEERING PAST
This program will serve as a highlight in your Grade 3 Urban and Rural Communities unit (also adaptable for Grades 4 to 8). With the use of maps, drawings and photographs, students will gain an understanding of settlement patterns in the area surrounding Wallaceburg. Particular emphasis is placed on Lord Selkirk's settlement of displaced Scottish rural highlanders. This program relates some of the harsh challenges of the natural environment that eventually led to the abandonment of "Baldoon" only 14 years after its creation in 1804. The Museum tour focuses on artifacts that would have been used in early 19th century daily life. |
PIONEER CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS
Students will learn how many of the modern Christmas traditions and celebrations have evolved from pioneer times to present day. Using the setting of our Log Cabin Room and our Victorian Christmas Tree, students will be able to see how drastically Christmas decorations and gift-giving changed within the second half of the 19th century. Included is the opportunity to make gifts typical of the pioneer and Victorian eras. |
If you have a particular theme you wish to focus on, or you need to adjust your time within your visit, please give us a call. We can vary programs to accommodate your needs.
