A MESSAGE OF HOPE FROM DR. JACK VAN IMPE

How is Your Blood Pressure?

"There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel's veins,
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains."

Christians lovingly sing this beautiful hymn which tells the Gospel story in its totality. Christ came to earth to assume a body containing blood so that He might shed this liquid of life for you and me.

Today, Christendom freely talks about "the death of Christ for sinners," but death alone is insufficient if one is to be saved eternally. Christ could have died in numerous ways, but none of the methods of decease would have sufficed. For, you see, it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul (Leviticus 17:11), and without shedding of blood [there] is no remission [for sin] (Hebrews 9:22).

Is this merely my opinion or is it repeatedly taught in God's Holy Word? Listen carefully. The word blood occurs three times as often as the terminology cross of Christ and five times as frequently as death of Christ.

Christ's cleansing blood

In the previous newsletters I mentioned that lost souls are saved, justified, and redeemed by the blood of Jesus. In this study we continue our discussion by triumphantly declaring that cleansing is also available to all through Christ's sacrifice. Now the question is, is this shockingly important truth about the cleansing power of the blood of Christ in harmony with scientific truth? Get ready for some thrilling biological facts!

The great medical specialist Dr. Paul Brand encourages everyone to make the following experiment. Buy a blood pressure kit and wrap the cuff around the arm. When it is in position, have a friend pump it up to about 200mm of mercury, a sufficient pressure to stop the flow of blood in one's arm. Initially, the arm will feel an uncomfortable tightness beneath the cuff. Now comes the revealing part of the experiment. Perform an easy task with your cuffed arm. Merely flex your fingers and make a fist about ten times in succession or cut paper with scissors or drive a nail into wood with a hammer.

The first few movements will seem quite normal as the muscles obediently contract and relax. Soon, however, you will feel a slight weakness. Then, suddenly without warning, a hot flash of pain will strike after approximately ten movements. The muscles will cramp, and soon there will be a time of extreme agony. In fact, a continuance of movement will be impossible as the pain becomes unbearable. Next, as you release the pressure and air escapes from the cuff, blood will rush back into the aching arm and a wonderful sense of relief will be noticeable.   Now, why has all this happened? Physiologically, you have just experienced the cleansing power of the blood -- your blood. While the blood supply to your arm was shut off, the continued forcing of the muscles to do the simplest chores converted the oxygen into energy, thereby producing waste products (called metabolites). These are normally flushed away instantly by the bloodstream. However, while the blood flow was hindered the poisons or toxins were accumulating in the cells causing horrendous pain. Then, as soon as the cuff was released, the swirling stream of blood "cleansed" and "washed away" all poisons, thus producing relief and joy. This is exactly what happens to one and all when the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:19) is allowed to swirl away the poisons of sin accumulated over the years of separation from God.

May I ask you a question? "Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? There's a fountain flowing for the soul unclean; Oh, be washed in the blood of the Lamb." It does not matter how far one has gone in the paths of wickedness. The powerful, efficacious blood is potent enough -- twenty centuries after being shed -- to liquidate, obliterate, and exterminate all one's heinous past, for the blood of Jesus Christ his [God's] Son cleanseth us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

First Corinthians 6:9-11 proves my assertion. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed. Amen, and amen! The vilest of sins are mentioned in this horrendous listing, and yet these sinners were washed.

Think of it! Fornicators (those who indulge in premarital sex), idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, drunkards, hate-filled gossipers, and swindlers -- all washed! Washed. Get it, WASHED! Why? Because the blood of Christ is sufficient to wash away man's worst degradations. We say, Praise be unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood (Revelation 1:5).

The truth is even more glorious since the "cleansed" also have all their past forgiven and forgotten, because God says in Hebrews 8:12, Their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. This is because the Father removes one's sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12), and casts all of our sins behind His back (see Isaiah 38:17). And if that isn't enough, He also casts all our sins into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19), and then puts up a sign that says "NO FISHING ALLOWED." Hallelujah!

This is why children in Sunday school so vociferously sing:

Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone! Yes, my sins are gone.
Now my soul is free, and in my heart's a song.
Buried in the deepest sea, Yes, that's good enough for me.
I shall live eternally, Praise God! My sins are gone!

Why don't you trust Jesus today and begin singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (see Ephesians 5:19)? You, too, may be part of the throng that have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:14).

We have been sanctified

Now because of being saved, justified, redeemed, cleansed, and washed, we can assuredly know that we have been sanctified (or made holy) in God's sight because Christ [sanctified] the people with his own blood (Hebrews 13:12). But wait! I have more good news! Eternal peace with God is also possible. No longer does one have to wonder about his state or standing with the Almighty. Jesus Christ is The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). This is not just a title, but a job description.

When Christ ascended Calvary's cross twenty centuries ago, something wonderful took place for every sinner -- past, present, and future! Christ made eternal peace a possibility for all who trust in the merits of His shed blood. Now since He made peace through the blood of his cross (Colossians 1:20), one may instantaneously experience this tranquility by receiving Jesus.

Are we finished? No, there is more glorious news as I tell you in conclusion that there is deliverance from the fear of death through Christ's precious blood. This comforting thought is discovered in Hebrews 2:14,15. As the children are partakers of flesh and blood [their parents], he [Christ] also himself likewise took part of the same [flesh and blood] as He came through the womb of the virgin Mary. At that time He bore a body which enabled Him to die like others, that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

In simpler English, Christ came from heaven, took a body, died in that body, and destroyed the power Satan wielded over us concerning the fear of death. Thus, when one trusts in the shed blood of Christ, death's stinging bite is no longer feared. In fact, the trusting child of God can cry out with Paul, To die is gain (Philippians 1:21) because to be absent from the body...[is] to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Why not enjoy this kind of comfort in a day of frustration. It is yours for the asking. Romans 10:13 states, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Would you like to be saved eternally? Would it not be great to be cleansed from every sin -- yes, all the hidden skeletons of past iniquities? Wouldn't it be a glorious feeling to know that every wicked blemish of your past and present lifestyle had been forgiven and forgotten because God had cast the whole abominable mess into the depths of the sea? Surely this thought alone would remove the fear of dying. Well, it can happen right now, this very moment, as one trusts in Jesus.

At My Front Door

Soulwinning is everybody's business. When our Lord Jesus issued the Great Commission, He did not direct it just to preachers, or the highly educated, or the good talkers.

He sent us all... and made us all equally responsible. Yet, sadly, I'm told that the vast majority of church members today have not won another person to Christ in the last 12 months. In fact, most Christians surveyed said they have never personally led anybody to the Lord.

Why? I'm convinced it is not because they don't care. Most Christians I meet are very concerned about the lost. They are praying for unsaved loved ones and many are giving to support missionary and evangelistic ministries. They rejoice to hear good reports of precious souls won to Christ.

Why, then, have they not become soulwinners personally?

I believe it is because they feel unworthy and unprepared to talk with another person about something as important as his or her personal salvation.

"I don't know what to say... or where to find the right scriptures," people often tell me. "And if someone asked me a question, I'm not sure I'd have the right answer. What if I said or did the wrong thing and kept someone from being saved?"

Have you ever felt this way? Well, let me tell you from my own personal experience that there is something YOU can do for the Lord. You can personally witness to others and help lead them to make a decision for Christ.

We didn't get home that night until about 9 o'clock, and Dr. Van Impe had a flight to catch at 6 o'clock the next morning. Besides, it was storming, with rain and lightning. But he insisted on getting the invitation flyers delivered. He got on his bicycle and rode through the rain to each house in the neighborhood. Who knows how many did watch the special and hear the gospel proclaimed!

Be God's representative in your everyday living

I'd also like to share with you about the little mission field the Lord has given me just a few blocks from home.

I tell you this, not to call attention to myself, but to show you that God has a ministry for each of us -- a job we can do that no one else can accomplish.

When I'm not on the road with my husband, I often stop by a small shopping mall near our home. It has many convenient stores and shops, and when I can spare a few minutes, I enjoy just browsing.

During my visits there, the Lord has given me opportunities to witness to several of the workers there -- waitresses and sales ladies -- and to lead some of them to Christ.

Now, I didn't go there with my Bible under my arm, looking for someone I could talk with. In almost every case, the individual would approach me and start the conversation.

Sometimes they'd say, "Why are you always so happy? There's something different about you!" Or when I asked how they were doing, they might say, "I'm having a problem..." and begin to pour out their heart to me.

They didn't care whether or not I was a Bible school graduate or even what church I went to. But they sensed my love and interest in them... and they wanted to hear my personal testimony. Helping them pray and accept Jesus was just so natural and easy, then.

These girls might never have watched our TV program, or attended a crusade or church service. But right there, in their world, they were searching and hungry... and so receptive.

You can be a soulwinner

There are people in your world that only you can reach. They don't need you to preach to them, or persuade them. They just need you to share with them the same joy and power that helps you through life.

Every person you work with or go to school with ...every waitress, or sales person, every visitor to your front door may be looking for someone like you -- a real, everyday, down-to-earth, flesh and blood person -- to tell them about Jesus and how to be saved.

When the opportunity comes, be ready. Show love... tell what the Lord has done for you. The Holy Spirit will do the rest.

If you're willing to do these simple things, you can be a soulwinner. And what a thrill and joy to help someone else accept the Lord.

Set a goal to win at least one person to Christ this year. You can do it! And you'll discover why the writer of Proverbs declared, He that winneth souls is wise (11:30).

I'm very proud they are speaking out against the DaVinci code and the movie about it. Jesus was perfect in every way. Pitiful that people even so called Christians believe this garbage. Mr. Van Impe was so very true when he said we need to read and follow what the bible tells us. It's God's word, the only real truth.

Many years ago, in the '70's I was in Catholic Central High School in Binghamton, New York. I went to one of your crusades at the Broome County Veteran's Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY. There I listened intently to your loving words of encouragement and truth using God's Sacred Word! I was moved by the Holy Spirit and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour through you leading me through the Sinner's Prayer! I went through many spiritual battles including one of drugs and immorality! But, I never gave up on Jesus, and HE never gave up on me! I have been delivered from the drugs for over 13 years now, and I love Jesus with all my heart! I love your ministry, and watch you as often as possible! I praise God for you, and want to thank you for your unwavering delivery of the Word of God, and the Truth of the Gospel. I just wanted to let you know how much your example and your gentle presentation of our Lord Jesus really does make a difference! I encourage you, and I support you in prayer! Once I get financially stable, I will be sending another love gift to you, but until then, my love and admiration, and of course my prayers!
