Nomination for Health & Safety Activist Award - Kris Lee
- Canadian Chemical Producer's Association (CCPA)
She was initially a Panel Member (1988-1998) when she was asked to be an External Public Verifier, a position she
continues to hold. Kris is also a member of the Canadian Responsible Verification Steering Committee (similar to ISO
except the standards are stricter) (1998-present). As a Public Verifier, Kris' role is to examine the standards of a
company, offer suggestions for improvement and review emergency procedures. Every three years, Verifiers return to the
company to ensure compliance with their recommendations. Recently, Kris, along with a representative from the Ministry
of the Environment, was a keynote speaker at the CCPA Annual Meeting in Ottawa and she addressed health and safety and
environment issues germane to the chemical industry.

Kris subscribes to be a member of theis US organization. She has been active for 7 years.
- Science Teachers of Ontario
This group has asked Kris to join their Health and Safety Committee. Her role will include distributing reports to teachers on new regulations.

- She has written articles in Industrial magazines (Catalyst, etc.)
- She has conducted interviews with CBC and CTV on Health and Safety and environmental issues.
- She has written articles for local newspapers on environmental issues.
- She started the recycling program at her school (WDSS) and was the coordinator of the program for ten years. She involved
the students - had them do an audit of the school, following H&S guidelines, to see what was recyclable around the school.
- She obtained permission from the Board and School to teach Basic Certification to her Grade 11 class - at the end of the
course, the students have a high school credit and their health and safety certification to put on their resume. She
started it last year and she's doing it again this year. Other schools are looking at doing the course now.
