HISTORY OF EAR CONING
Ear Coning has been used as a healthy home remedy - a complimentary means that has brought people relief from excessive amounts of ear wax. With excessive ear wax you could produce serveral symptoms; fullness in the ear, partial deafness, earaches, dizziness, headaches, allergies, hyperactivity, tinnitus, sore throats, and glands, colds, sinus problems. Prolonged blockage may also inflame the skin of the canal, causing irritation.
A TYPICAL CONING TREATMENT
Be sure to have a glass of water at hand, a face guard, kleenex or paper towel, some ear scoops (Q-tips will do), some massage cream, a light or lighter and scissors.
Wash your hands before and after each treatment, germs, virus, fungus can be present, one must protect themselves, consider your hands as an extension of your body and during a treatment energy is transmitted between the participants. It is your duty to start each person with new energy, exempt of negative impulses brought in by the preceding person.
The pillow where the client's head rests must be covered with a paper towel or towel sterilized after use. If you use an otoscope, those attachments must be sterilized or disposed of.
Have the client lie on their side with the ear in a vertical position (one could sit with their head resting on a pillow). It is best if you are seated at the head of the client.
Start the treatment with a massage. Massage the contour and base of the ear; massage the outer ear and the auditory canal without penetrating it. Place the face guard around the ear, always consider the client's safety and always exercise care in the type of material/materials used. Mark the candle (with a felt pen or marker) 4 inches (or 10cm) from the small end with a line, do not burn below this line. Light the candle and position it. Light the end with the large opening. It is important the candle block the entire auditory canal and air cannot get by. Incorrect placement of the candle can be verified by smoke leaking between the candle and the canal. Do not push down more than necessary. Remember the auditory canal is closed by the ear drum, be careful not to lay stress on it. If air gets by, there will be a powdery residue on the inside of the candle, do not be alarmed by this, it simply means you did not get a proper seal. Take a kleenex or paper towel and lay over the part of the ear that is still exposed. Candles sometimes drip (usually by improper placement in auditory canal) and this will catch the drips and the client will not be burnt by the wax. Be sure to keep an eye on the candle, making sure it is drawing properly, the fiber will have an ash, do not be concerned if it falls, simply pick it up and put it in the glass of water. When the candle is at the line you marked, gently remove it, hold your hand under it (to catch any drips or falling ash) and extinguish the candle in a glass of water. With an ear scoop, gently remove any accumulated debris around the auditory canal. Be careful not to push any debris back into the ear. Proceed with the other ear, and be sure to put cotton baton in the client's ears before they leave. The ear needs to cool off naturally.
The client will undergo (either during or after a session) the sounds of the candle burning, a feeling of lightening around the head, hearing sharper, a feeling of cleanliness and a sense of deep relaxation.
